This book was exciting from beginning to end It was also very interesting I learned a great deal about butterflies the sea priest holes and smugglers caves I have read all the books in this series but this is the best by far The characters are multifaceted and show a great deal of depth The descriptions really transported me to another place and time I look forward to the next installment Audiobook I just adore this series so much I truly hope that the next book will not be the last in the series because that would break my heart I love Veronica and Stoker so much and all their banter and arguments. I was a bit disappointed at the start of the book when there was so much fighting and distance between the two and the vague details of her trip But it was all worth it in the end because I think that distance and time apart the time to think is part of what enabled them to get to where they now are. I tried so hard to pace myself with reading this book so that I wouldn t have to face an entire year waiting for the fifth in the series but I couldn t stop myself from reading or ration my reading enough I was nervous that we wouldn t truly discover what had ultimately happened to Rosamund before the close of the book After everything with the dangers in the house was settled and still there was no final answer past what her fate had been I thought I woudd have to make my peace with always wondering where she was But in the very last pages the mystery is drawn to a close the door to a new mystery is left ajar for the next book and now Now I must wait. Truly ever part of this series is gold and I adore each and every page Audiobook Each book in the Veronica Speedwell series has gotten interesting until now I m addicted to the series The relationship between Stoker and Veronica reaches the boiling point provoked by Stoker s urbane sophisticated elder brother Tiberius. This time the mystery is an old one several years ago a beautiful young woman named Rosamund disappeared on her wedding night Did she change her mind and run away Or did something sinister happen leaving her husband Malcolm a grieving widower The setting is suitably eerie and isolated Although it s not a surprise who the murderer is the characters are well drawn as always and the tempestuous relationship between the two Templeton Vane brothers adds spice to the story. Veronica s unique combination of pragmatism and intuition makes her the ideal person to untangle the secrets of St Maddern s castle and the Romilly family Stoker and Tiberius jostle competitively to help her making for some interesting situations where she must take charge to prevent a physical altercation Stoker suspects his brother of having a hidden agenda and in fact Tiberius is hiding a secret one that makes him a leading suspect for Rosamund s disappearance. Malcolm wants to find out the truth behind Rosamund s disappearance But someone is determined to make sure no one especially Veronica Speedwell will ever discover what really happened that night Audiobook I always seem to stay at least one behind in this series I love it so much that I can t bear to be caught up and not have Veronica and Stoker to visit as I like This one was a bit different Stoker s brother Tiberius is summoned to a friend s island home and takes them along Malcolm Romilly s wife disappeared on their wedding day three years before He wants to solve the mystery so he can move forward with his life. While there s not a lot of actionin this one and Tiberius figures heavily there is constructive angst in Veronica s and Stoker s complex relationship here and I found this one enlightening as far as the characters were concerned The mystery itself does not figure that prominently but I found in Raybourn s deft hands I really didn t feel cheated at all in that way.
